Downtown Canton Special Improvement
District, Inc. (SID)
Overview
Concerned downtown landowners created the District to strengthen
livability, commerce, and economic vitality in downtown Canton.
The District is intended to increase the utilization of downtown
Canton by businesses and individuals in the Canton metropolitan
area. Establishing the downtown area as a livable center of
commerce and entertainment is conducive to the public health,
safety, convenience, and welfare of the District.
Purpose
The SID serves the following purposes:
- To serve as governing body of a
designated special improvement district.
SID Territory
The District territory is generally described as that portion of
the City of Canton, which is bounded by Sixth Street North, on the
north (with exceptions), Wells Avenue on the west, Sixth Street
South on the south (with exceptions), and Savannah Avenue on the
east.
Each property owner within the District, other than the State of
Ohio and United States of America, are members of the District
To encourage and engage in programs that will maintain, improve,
and build downtown Canton as a viable business, cultural, and
recreational community.
To assist the City of Canton, Stark County, and other agencies and
groups in providing programming that will preserve opportunities
and the economic well being of downtown Canton.
To encourage and participate in programs to preserve the
aesthetic, architectural, and historic character of downtown
Canton.

Location
All SID monthly meetings take place in the Mayor’s Conference Room
on the 8th floor of City Hall located at 218 Cleveland Ave. except
the annual meeting scheduled in November. The annual meeting will
take place in the Community Room at Canton Regional Chamber of
Commerce at 222 Market Ave. N.
