Day Ketterer and the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce are pleased to announce that Colin Svatos was recently awarded the 2015 Business Excellence Scholarship Award of $2,000. The scholarship was presented at the Chamber’s Business Excellence Awards ceremony on May 5 at The Conference Center, Kent State University at Stark. 10421546_10153258936733334_4861156868906666901_n Svatos, a 2015 graduate of GlenOak High School, and son of Melinda Svatos and Bill Svatos, submitted the winning essay titled, “The Historical Role of Private Business in Promoting Democracy Throughout the World.”  Submissions were open to all Stark County High School seniors and those currently enrolled at a Stark County University or College. Following is an excerpt from his essay, “In World War II, the full force of American industrialism had to take action to stop the spread of fascism. The entire capitalistic infrastructure had to focus on the war effort. Privately held companies across the United States began producing war time necessities. This extreme production allowed America to defeat the Axis Powers.” Svatos will attend Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where he has been accepted to the Farmer School of Business and the University Honors Program. He is involved in numerous activities at GlenOak including cross country, track, the National Honor Society, and Academic Challenge. Additionally, Colin received an Academic Letter based on his academic performance and community service all four years of high school. He also volunteers his free time at several community organizations including Holy Cross Church, Monument Park Hummingbird Garden, and has served as a Young Life Leader for the past two years. This is the fourth year that Day Ketterer has presented this scholarship at the Chamber's Business Excellence Awards.
