CANTON, OH (November 7, 2008) - The Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce's 18th annual Light Up Downtown event, 16 blocks of festive fun for the whole family, will be held Thursday, Dec. 4, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The annual main stage show, Illumination Show Spectacular, will begin at 6 p.m. on Market Ave. The Illumination Show will feature singing, Santa, a dazzling tree lighting, incredible fireworks and of course, more than a few surprises!

"Light Up Downtown would not be complete without our fireball-wielding Santa Claus, who will literally 'light up' Downtown Canton," said Kayleigh Kriss, chairman of this year's Light Up event.

Local performers for the show include the Candy Apple Dancers and McKinley High School Show Choir performing Let it Ring, Let it Sing, Let it Snow. The event pre-show, sponsored by Mix 94.1, will run from 5:30 to 6 p.m.

Beyond the main stage show, Light Up Downtown provides 16 city blocks of Canton winter wonderland fun, complete with attractions, entertainment, refreshments and giveaways. This fun-for-all-ages festival is free to all attendees, who can look forward to a very special visit from Santa, wagon and trolley rides, singing and local dance troupe performances, ice skating shows, costumed characters, children's crafts and activities, exhibits and local artist demonstrations. Goody bags will be available for the first 2,500 children.

During the event, the Canton City Fire Department will distribute hats and mittens to area children in need. If you would like to donate new children's hats and mittens, please bring them to one of our donation boxes, located at the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce and all Chamber events, Canton Classic Car Museum, Denny's Restaurant (on Tusc. St.), El Campesino Mexican Restaurant (on Cleveland Ave.), Malone University - University Relations Office, Stark County District Library (all branches) and The Repository. All donations need to be received by Tuesday, Dec. 2.
