BWC 10-Step Business Plan

RiskControl360° offers 10-Step Business Plan implementation services for employers of all sizes. The plan is a framework developed by the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) for businesses to use when implementing safety programs and developing a safety culture. The methodology involves integrating best practices, policies and procedures into the existing company business model. The intention is to establish these best practices for the purpose of reducing job-related injuries and illnesses, thereby reducing overall claims and premiums.

The steps of the program include:

1. Visible, active senior management leadership
2. Employee involvement and recognition
3. Medical treatment and return to work practices
4. Communication
5. Timely notification of claims
6. Safety and health process coordination and employer education
7. Written orientation and training plan
8. Written and communicated safe work practices
9. Written safety and health policy
10. Recordkeeping and data analysis

Although it can be used by any business to assist in reducing injuries, the BWC requires implementation of the 10-Step Business Plan for certain discount programs including: 100% EM Cap Program.

For each of these programs, the steps required and implementation timeline vary. Associated program discounts and rebates also vary. RiskControl360° can assist with determining the program benefits associated with implementing the plan.
