Outstanding recent grad joins the ystark! Fellowship Program with Time Warner Cable CANTON, OH (August 11, 2010) – ystark!, the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce’s young professional organization, has announced that Walsh University graduate Christopher Burr will serve as the 2010 ystark! Fellow. Burr will begin his Fellowship with Time Warner Cable as a technical support specialist. Burr graduated from Walsh University in the spring of 2010 with a B.A. in corporate communications. His many achievements at Walsh include serving as president of the University’s Business Club, member of the University’s Student Government, crew leader for freshmen move-in and orientation, serving as an alumni ambassador, a member of the Walsh University Entrepreneur Experience and as senator to the University’s Residence Hall Association. He also volunteered for Habitat for Humanity in New Orleans and locally at the Clean-Up North Canton Park’s Day. Recent internships include working in the information systems and marketing departments of Walsh University, the IT department of Plasticolors, Inc. in Ashtabula, Ohio and as auction assistant at Dufina Auctions in Austinburg, Ohio.

“Time Warner Cable has long supported Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce programs such as Leadership Stark County and ystark!,” said Don Jensen, vice president of customer care, Time Warner Cable Northeast Ohio/Western Pennsylvania. “The ystark! Fellowship effort was highly organized and provided our company with dozens of applicants to review to fill our opening.” “We are pleased to have Burr on-board,” Jensen added. Time Warner Cable will invest two years with Burr, offering him meaningful and challenging work assignments, leadership growth and the opportunity to work on innovative projects. The host company will also be required to support the Fellow in community service projects, volunteer commitments and attendance at ystark! and Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce events. Senior management is encouraged to stay abreast of Burr’s progress and provide progress evaluations. By hosting a Fellow, Time Warner will have direct access to emerging talent, and a way to capture employees who have the most knowledge and skills of new technologies, practices and processes. “Time Warner now joins the ranks of Aultman Health Foundation and The Repository, each of which currently has a Fellow completing year two of the program. These are companies that see the value in cultivating new and emerging talent right in their own backyard,” said Aimee Belden, director of ystark! “It’s a great confirmation to us that the goals and mission of ystark! are aligned with those of area businesses.” The program is a unique opportunity for area undergraduate students who are searching for their first salaried position post-graduation. The Fellowship Program is intended to offer an immersion experience for participants – a full-time, salaried, high-exposure work opportunity that offers the benefits of professional development, community service involvement and networking opportunities.
