2012 CAPITAL CAMPAIGN   News Release WRL Advertising | 4470 Dressler Road, NW, Canton, Ohio 44718 | 330.493.8866 | For immediate release Date: November 19, 2012 Contact: Holly Mueller Email: $1.35 MILLION CAPITAL CAMPAIGN TO HELP RESTORE CANTON PALACE THEATRE CANTON… The Canton Palace Theatre, an 86-year-old cornerstone of Downtown Canton, will undergo an extensive process of restoration and renovation as part of its Capital Campaign, which began in October and will continue into the beginning of 2014. The renovations, which include $1.35 million in construction, will improve both the safety and aesthetics of the theatre, as well as reduce the operating costs while increasing the energy efficiency of the building. "We want to restore the Palace as the crown jewel of the Canton Arts District," said Georgia Paxos, Canton Palace Theatre’s executive director. "The goal is to maintain the architectural integrity of the theatre while giving Canton residents the cultural and entertainment experience they remember from their childhood." The Palace’s last major capital restoration/renovation project was completed in 1991, and the theatre has undergone extensive wear and tear over the past two decades. Leaking has caused portions of the ceiling to drop plaster fragments, and the plumbing system, which is still using the building’s original cast iron piping, is no longer able to handle full house audiences. These are just a few of the issues that the project, once completed, will eliminate. The renovations will necessitate brief shutdowns in 2013 during the months of December and January as well as July and August. These shutdowns will allow the Palace to improve the safety of its environment without putting its patrons at risk. To donate, please contact Georgia Paxos at 330-454-8172 (x305). Today, the Palace is alive again, both the literal and figurative cornerstone of the Downtown Canton Arts District. A vital multi-purpose entertainment facility, its marquee burns brightly sixty feet above Market Avenue, welcoming you to enter its grand foyer and become a part of Canton's nostalgic past. Hosting over 300 events a year, with an attendance of over 100,000 guests, the Palace also strives to be an important part of Canton's future. For more information, visit ###
