CANTON, OH (May 27, 2009) – Thanks to the vision of a group of gardening-minded residents, this spring marks the first year for the Downtown Canton Community Garden, located at Fifth Street NW and King Court NW, just a block and a half west of McKinley Avenue NW. [gallery link="file"] The Downtown Canton Community Garden is a space for members of the community to grow their own vegetables and flowers in a secure setting. Just a short walk from the weekly Canton Farmers’ Market (which begins June 20), the Community Garden provides for a place for individuals and families cultivate their own vegetables in a pesticide-free setting. Gardeners will compost on site in order to return nutrients to the soil. All of the Community Garden produce is being grown for private consumption, and all excess will be donated to local food pantries!   The garden offers 34 plots, several of which are still available for interested community members. Members rent a space 8’x9’ for $20 per year.
