Earth Day at at The Wilderness Center,: Saturday, April 18, Bird Walk: 8 am Join TWC Birders for a spring walk enjoying the sights and sounds of birds! Foto Fest: 9-4 View beautiful photographs and help choose the winners! Pick up a ballot at the door and then take your time meandering through the exhibit and voting for your favorite. There are so many great pictures - it is not easy to pick the best! Earth Day Clean-Up: 9-4 Help clean up the TWC environment! Everyone is welcome! You, your family, or your group can adopt a trail or area to clean. You can also do your part to help the earth and control the invasive species garlic mustard. We�ll provide gloves, trash bags, and refreshments. Free. Please contact Vicki at vicki@wildernesscenter.org if you can help. Backpacking/Hiking Demonstration: 9-1 Stop by and chat with members of TWC�s Backpackers & Dayhikers Club. Gather information at the Prairie Shelter for your next dayhike or backpacking trip. Some of the subjects include backpacks and how to pack them, meals and water, tents, first aid and personal care, clothing, and Ultra-lite backpacking. Come and view various pieces of equipment and find out what is right for you. Free and open to the public. Wild Edibles: Freezing and Drying Workshop: 10-11 Freezing and drying foods can provide a quick and easy way to preserve food while maintaining a high nutrient quality, but there is more to these methods than meets the eye. Christine Kendle from the OSU Extension Service will show how to properly dry fruits and vegetables to ensure both high quality and food safety. Free, no registration. Climate Change! In Our Neck of the Woods? 1-2 Is global climate change really happening? If so, what will change about our climate here in Ohio? And, will it change which plants and animals live in this area? Learn about the science of climate change and how it may affect our ecosystems here in the Midwest. Free, no registration. Foxfield Preserve Info Session: 2-3 Foxfield Preserve is a nature preserve cemetery at TWC. Natural burial is an economical, environmentally friendly alternative to modern burial. A natural burial at Foxfield Preserve leaves a permanent legacy for your family, community and the natural world. Free informational sessions are held monthly at TWC. Follow pages from The Salamander Room by Anne Mazer, read the book and end at the pond! Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalists will be there to help you learn about all the plants and animals that use the pond for their home.
