CANTON, OH (Aug. 4, 2011) – Vicky Sterling, this year’s chairman of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival Ribs Burnoff Committee, has announced that Armadillo BBQ Company has won First Place for Most Outstanding Ribs for the SIXTH YEAR in a row. Locally-owned Old Carolina Barbecue Co. is an eight-year People’s Choice Award winner. The following is a complete list of the 2011 Ribs Burnoff Competition winners:

First Place Winner: Most Outstanding Ribs; $2,500 Prize Armadillo’s BBQ Company, Youngstown, Ohio

Second Place Winner: Mayor’s Award; $1,000 Prize Jack On the Bone, Canton, Ohio

Best Sauce Award Winner; $500 Prize Texas Pit, Willis, Texas

People’s Choice Award Winner Old Carolina Barbecue, Canton, Ohio

The 2011 HOFEF Ribs Burnoff Competition included eight local and national rib contenders and more than 80 judges. Seven area professional chefs served as judges in selecting the Best Sauce Award winner. The People’s Choice Award winner was awarded based on surveys taken by an anonymous, independent group who surveyed the general public at the event to determine the best ribs at the Ribs Burnoff according to the populous. In addition to fantastic ribs, the annual HOFEF Ribs Burnoff features specialty foods, fun family activities and live music. The Ribs Burnoff continues tonight, Thursday, Aug. 4, at the Stark County Fairgrounds, with a live performance from country artist Phil Vassar. The Ribs Burnoff concludes Friday, Aug. 5, with an evening performance from party band Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes – with special guest Joe Grushecky and the House Rockers.
