CONCERT PERFORMER BIOS
The Fabulous Thunderbirds featuring Kim Wilson The Fabulous Thunderbirds have a distinctive and powerful sound, influenced by a diversity of musical styles. Co-founder, vocalist, and harmonica player Kim Wilson is the sole original member and still spearheads the group as it evolves into its newest incarnation. They started as a straight blues band but now incorporate a mixture of many styles and define themselves as an American music band with much higher energy than before. Wilson is joined by Jay Moeller on drums, Johnny Moeller and Mike Keller on guitar, and Randy Bermudes on bass, and together they tour extensively in both the United States and Europe. The thread throughout the Thunderbirds career has been the respect they have commanded for their peerless musicianship and devotion to the sounds of blues, R & B, and rock n’ roll. For Wilson, his musical journey began in California at the age of 17 when he began playing the harmonica and started singing. He moved to Minneapolis for a short time and then headed to Austin, Texas, where he met Jimmie Vaughan, they founded the T-Birds in 1974, and subsequently signed a record deal with CBS/Epic Records. In 1979, The Fabulous Thunderbirds released their first self-titled album which was primarily blues and became a cult classic. In subsequent releases, the band started to incorporate more Cajun, rock n’ roll, and soul influences. In 1986, they reached a commercial peak with the album, “Tuff Enuff” and the single of the same title along with “Wrap It Up” and “Look At That” all went Top 40. For the remainder of the 80’s, the band continued to record and tour and released the album “Powerful Stuff.” Jimmie Vaughan left the band in 1989, but Wilson kept the group going, incorporating keyboards into the guitar-driven sound.
