CANTON, OH (August 13, 2010) – Leadership Stark County is currently recruiting applicants for its fall 2010 Spotlight Stark County program. Young professionals, age 25-34, who live or work in Stark County, are encouraged to apply for the 6-week program that provides personal leadership development, civic awareness and community involvement.
“We’re helping to cultivate the future leaders of Stark County,” said Fran Wells, director. “Our goal is to keep young people energized about this community and to provide skills as they transition into community leadership roles.”
The six sessions include the Discover & Applying Your Strengths profile and community and organizational engagement (both facilitated by The Corporate University, Kent State University at Stark) speed networking, Downtown Canton: Then & Now and the local art scene. NEW THIS YEAR – participants will participate in “speed-boarding,” the opportunity to shadow a non-profit board.
Seasoned professionals are encouraged to recommend younger colleagues for the program, especially young professionals who are new to Stark County. Beyond leadership development and community stewardship, the program also fosters camaraderie among its like-minded participants. A full list of participating professionals from past program years is available online.
The program begins on Sept. 30 with an orientation from 4:30 to 6 p.m., and meets Tuesdays through Dec. 7 (most sessions meet from 4 to 6 p.m.). The short, evening programs are meant to accommodate hectic young professional schedules. Tuition for the program is $450 and partial tuition assistance is available for participants in the nonprofit, government and education sectors.
Leadership Stark County is committed to recruiting a diverse class that represents Stark County’s professional, residential and ethnic diversity.
Prospective participants are encouraged to attend an information reception on Tuesday, Aug. 31, from 5:15 - 6 pm at the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce. Reservations are requested but not necessary.
Applications for the Spotlight program are accepted through September 10, or until the class is filled. To learn more or to obtain an application for the Spotlight Stark County program, visit www.leadershipstarkcounty.org or call Fran Wells at (330) 458-2094.
