Living Downtown

Through a collaborative effort of both the public and private sector downtown Canton has begun a journey toward renewal, redevelopment and revitalization.

With the completion of the 400 McKinley lofts, Onesto lofts, and Superior Building apartments, in recent months and years, some of which already have waiting lists, the demand for downtown living is at a premium. Additional units are currently under construction.

In order for the downtown to live, people have to live downtown

Local, unique eateries and specialty shops already exist providing the anchor for more of the types of businesses that make a neighborhood a dynamic place to live. Restaurants, night clubs, coffee houses, shoe stores and a men’s clothing store join the existing establishments including jewelry stores, gift shops, news stands, flower shop, banks, churches—and so much more.

Currently, more than 1,200 people call downtown Canton home. Downtown Canton has hundreds of market rate housing units planned or under construction. Adaptive reuse of historic buildings is expected to provide the dramatic and unique urban living spaces that appeal to young professionals looking for housing within walking distance of work and empty-nesters seeking affordable living close to the services they need.
