BIO: Jim Porter was named President of the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Oct. 16, 2021. He had joined the Hall in March 2020 as the Chief Marketing & Communications Officer, responsible for overseeing the staff that implemented the Hall’s marketing and communications strategies on a daily basis and surrounding its major events, including Enshrinement Week Powered by Johnson Controls, along with the Hall’s social media channels and website.

Previously, Porter was named Publisher of GateHouse Ohio Media in September 2013 and oversaw the management of The Repository, The Massillon Independent, The Alliance Review, The Dover Times Reporter, About Magazine, Friday Night Ohio, The Suburbanite and Jackson Suburbanite and their related digital products.

He held several executive management positions over his 33 years at The Repository, serving as VP of Circulation, VP of Sales & Marketing and General Manager for GateHouse Ohio Media prior to being named Group Publisher.

During his newspaper career, Porter won the prestigious International Newspaper Marketing Award for “best overall marketing results” and has been recognized as one of Presstime Magazine’s “20 Under 40” for the newspaper industry.  Under his leadership, the Canton Repository was recognized as Newspaper of the Year five consecutive years (2015-2019).  This distinction recognizes the best newsroom in the state of Ohio. He also received a number of Ohio Circulation Managers Association awards over the years.

Recently, Porter received the Clayton Horn Award, which recognizes an individual who positively impacts the community and strives to move it forward.

Porter served as the Chairman of the NFL Centennial Host Committee, Past Chairman of the Board of the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce.  He serves or has served on the following boards of directors: Pro Football Hall of Fame, Pathway Caring for Children, ArtsinStark, Better Business Bureau, Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce, Special Improvement District for City of Canton, Canton for All People and United Way of Greater Stark County and the City of Canton’s Steering Committee.

Porter served as co-chair of the Harvest for Hunger food campaign for the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank for three consecutive years. Prior to that, he was chairman of ArtsinStark’s annual fundraising campaign.

He is the founder and chairman of the Stark County High School Football Hall of Fame and executive director of the East-West All-Star Game in Stark County. He was inducted into the Plain Local Wall of Fame in 2004 as an individual and was inducted a second time, in 2018, as the past president of the Golden Eagle Athletic Association, which was honored as a group.

Porter resides in Jackson Township with his wife, Sarah, and has four daughters: Kaitlyn, 27; Bayley, 24; Emma, 18; and Reagan, 15.  He attended Akron University and Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
