Seniors are encouraged to participate in the 2009 Senior Nutrition Program at the Canton Farmers’ Market, partaking in the multiple produce vendors who bring fresh, local produce to downtown Canton throughout the summer months. Seniors can receive $50 in vouchers to use toward purchasing fresh produce only. Each senior may participate one-time only in the 2009 program.

To qualify, each participant must be over 60 years of age and have an annual income under $19,245, or a household income of $25,900 per couple. The vouchers are available on a first-come, first-served basis during regular market hours. After the vouchers are distributed, seniors can sign up on a waiting list and will be contacted if further vouchers become available.

Vouchers can be used at the participating Canton Farmers’ Market vendors during the 2009 market season. The Canton Farmers’ Market is held every Saturday from 8 - 11:30 a.m., rain or shine, through Oct. 17.

All market goers are welcome to buy local produce, natural meats, cut flowers, baked goods, artisan breads, soaps and lotions, grains, canned goods, potted perennials and annuals, pumpkins, and more. There are a variety of market activities for the whole family, including organic gardening sessions, cooking demos, chair massage and children’s art classes. Visitors will enjoy live local talent, including music and art demos and colorful benches are located throughout the market for those who might like to have a seat and enjoy the atmosphere.

Each week the website is updated to include a list of available products in store for the upcoming market. Visit for more information.

The Canton Farmers’ Market is sponsored by Aultman Health Foundation, the Downtown Special Improvement District, Canton Development Partnership, The City of Canton, News-Talk WHBC AM & Mix 94.1, and The Repository.
